Our First River Cruise With AmaWaterways

Well, what can I say? After a very busy year, we decided it was time to treat ourselves to a well-earned holiday. 🏖 After doing our research, we decided on a luxury river cruise in June with AmaWaterways (a family run cruise line new to the UK). Honestly, from the second we were met at the airport, the staff were absolutely amazing 👏 They really couldn't do enough to help and went above and beyond. We sailed on AmaLucia (152 passengers onboard) along the Rhine from Amsterdam to Basel. Flights, transfers, all excursions, and food are included in the price of the holiday. Plus, the daily 'sip and sail' hour before dinner and drinks with all meals.

With at least two excursions to choose from each day, we were spoilt for choice! Our highlights were Strasbourg, capital city of the Grand East region of France 🇫🇷 blending French and German influences and culture, architecture, and cuisine. The gothic cathedral dominates the central square with its dramatic presence. This city is on our bucket list now for a Christmas Markets cruise. 🎄 A complete contrast to Strasbourg was our next excursion to Rudesheim. A beautiful wine town in Germany also on the Rhine. A wonderful day was had, visiting a local family run vineyard, tasting delicious wines in the cellar followed by a cable car ride above the most amazing views of the vineyards and views of the river. It's the most gorgeous little town (also on our Christmas market list) 😍 Our day travelling through the Rhine Gorge was amazing! Castle after castle, like a real life fairytale and all from the comfort of our small and friendly ship, and of course, with a glass of regional wine in hand 🥂 Our other favourite excursion was Colmar in the Alsace region of France. It was here that inspired Disney for the Beauty and the Beast movie 🎬 With its own 'Little Venice' flowing through the centre and beautiful decorated timber buildings, it is a place filled with wonder. We absolutely can't wait to book our next river cruise with AmaWaterways. Their service, food, wines, excursions, and attention to detail were second to none - we couldn't fault a thing!
